Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania formed about 2.5 million years ago. A volcanic eruption collapsed the cone inward and from this, a crater formed developing into a thriving, vibrant grassland. It is a natural wonder in East Africa, home to all of the most iconic African animals.

It is also home to one human group: The Maasai.

The Maasai indigenous people have inhabited this land for hundreds of years, it is their ancestral home. They are one of the few tribal groups who have refused to be influenced by modern western culture. They are herders, who live in concert with nature. They are not hunters.

Over the last ten years the government of Tanzania has been trying to remove the Maasai from their homeland. Now, August 2024 they are being threatened with eviction. Tanzanian officials and outside interests want to turn the pristine and natural land into an elite tourism and TROPHY HUNTING site

The only hope of these powerless and desperate people is pressure from outside voices. We need to stand up for this subjugated people. Please help us save the Maasai. Like giraffes, they too are an endangered species. We can stop the money grab. Take ten minutes, and do one or all of the following:

Contact the Tanzanian government

Call on President Samia Suluhu Hassan, cabinet ministers, and conservation authorities to stop evictions and protect the Maasai's land rights.

Contact the European Parliament

The European Parliament has condemned the evictions and called for Indigenous rights to be a priority in conservation initiatives.

Contact the World Bank

If the bank continues to fund the project, ask them to freeze funding while an investigation into the evictions is ongoing.

Support the Avaaz campaign

Sign the Avaaz petition to stop the evictions and fund more victories.

Their survival is up to us.
